I’ve had a few friends ask me about wedding monograms lately, and the question that I have been hearing most is “what style of monogram should I choose?”
After a little googling, most of you lovely people will see that there are generally two “styles” of monogram design
The first is a more traditional style that you would see on bathrobes, silverware, and “elegant” wedding invitations;
These usually feature flourish text accented with a simple font.
The second style is more contemporary, more similar to a unique “logo” for a boutique shop
Personally, I’m a huge fan of the more contemporary look. The room to be creative and different in the design is huge because there are no real “rules” to follow. The traditional style has it’s perks as well though, because it is traditional! Elegant, timeless, and simple. The traditional style is unlikely to age, where the contemporary look might not be so contemporary in 30 years when your style starts to change (however it would be a reflection of your style when you got married!)
Think about your wedding, chances are if there are cake pops involved, you should go with a contemporary monogram design. Big white wedding? Go traditional!
It’s all about keeping things cohesive – if design elements of your big day all match your main theme, then the theme as a whole will have a much more distinct and powerful impact.
One final piece of advice: Stay true to who you are! Don’t worry to much about how “future you” is going to like your wedding style, you’re planning this wedding for you who are today!
